RENTON, WA – Renton Downtown Partnership (RDP) is thrilled to announce the appointment of Joshua Shulkind as executive director. Shulkind will take over leadership of the partnership on Monday, August 28.
“Josh’s expertise in community development, business management, and a passion for enhancing urban experiences will lead our organization into an exciting new chapter,” said Jennifer Thompson, RDP Board President. “He’s the ideal candidate to lead our organization as we continue working to enhance Renton’s downtown area and create a vibrant urban hub for residents, visitors, and businesses.”
Shulkind joins RDP from Clover Park Technical College, where he worked as its grant development manager. In his first three months, he obtained over $715,000 in grants to fund programs.
“I am honored to join the Renton Downtown Partnership and work alongside the dedicated team and community stakeholders to elevate the downtown area to new heights,” said Shulkind. “Renton has incredible potential, and I am eager to use my skills and passion to help shape a downtown that reflects this remarkable city’s vibrancy, diversity, and creativity.”
Shulkind also served as the founder and executive director of Thrive Cities in Edgewood, Washington, where he recruited and led a four-person board of directors producing events to build communities where families and individuals grow to their fullest potential.
During his two years at Puyallup Food Bank (2021-2023), he implemented the Navigation and Partnerships Program. The program allowed food bank clients to tell their stories, which gave food bank staff the necessary information to refer them to community resources and services to help overcome those challenges.
“Josh’s proven history of successfully spearheading initiatives shows his deep commitment to fostering vibrant, inclusive, thriving communities,” continued Thompson. “His ability to support local businesses and engage community members aligns perfectly with the Renton Downtown Partnership’s mission to enhance the quality of life in downtown Renton.”
